Bhaskaran, a Director of M & A Law Corporation, is a multi-disciplinary multi jurisdictional lawyer who holds additional qualifications in environmental management and is qualified to practice law in Singapore, Australia, England and Wales. 

Bhaskaran’s broad legal skill set in advisory work, drafting and advocacy was developed over a period of 10 years, as a lawyer in top Singapore (Rajah & Tann) and Australian (Corrs Chambers Westgarth) law firms and while undertaking environmental law and policy work for one of the largest and oldest local government organizations in Sydney.

After graduating from the National University of Singapore and being called to the bar in 1996, Bhaskaran commenced his professional career in Singapore as a general litigation lawyer before proceeding to specialize in building construction and commercial litigation disputes. During this period, Bhaskaran:
 
undertook general advisory work in the areas of commercial law, building construction law, personal law and criminal law;
was involved in the vetting, drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements including building construction and engineering contracts;
appeared successfully as an advocate at all levels of the Singapore courts including the Court of Appeal, and in arbitration and mediation proceedings.
 
Some of the more significant litigation and arbitration proceedings Bhaskaran has been involved in Singapore, many of which have been reported, include:
 
acting for an international telecommunication company in a commercial dispute concerning a fraudulent claim for outstanding payments by its sub-contractor;
acting for a listed Malaysian pharmaceutical company against an American pharmaceutical company in a joint venture dispute concerning a Singapore joint venture company;
acting for a local electronic company in an action against its director for breach of directors duties;
acting in the landmark case of Madiah bte Atan which established that the Singapore Supreme Court had concurrent jurisdiction with the Syariah Court of Singapore to provide relief to a party to a Muslim marriage;
acting for the main contractor against the sub-contractors in respect of a dispute concerning the rectification of defective works and contra charges for building works at Mandarin Hotel and Great World City;
acting for the employer, a listed local aircraft engineering company, in a dispute with the main contractor over the construction of an aircraft hanger and reviewing the terms of the main contract;
acting for the main contractor of the Tuas Undersea tunnel in a dispute with the specialist sub-contractors;
acting for the main contractor in disputes with its employer and various sub-contractors in respect of the Sinsov Building and Hilltop Apartment projects;
acting for the structural sub-contractor in respect of a dispute with its formworks sub-contractor arising out of the construction of the Jurong Town Corporation Headquarters;
acting for the main contractor against the sub-contractor in respect of the construction of an aircraft hanger at Changi International Airport;
acting for the main contractor in a dispute concerning the termination of the sub-contract and delays to the progress of the works in respect of the building project known as WT Distripark Phase II.
 
In early 2001, Bhaskaran left for Australia to pursue postgraduate qualifications and subsequently worked as an environmental law and policy officer for an Australian local government organization in Sydney before joining a leading Australian national law firm in Brisbane as a planning, environment and government lawyer.  Bhaskaran’s Australian experience includes:
 
advisory work primarily in the areas of planning, environment, local government, administrative, commercial and to a lesser extent employment law;
appearing as an advocate in the Magistrate and District Courts of Queensland on behalf of private and institutional clients in criminal proceedings, and planning & environment disputes;
vetting, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements including waste management and infrastructure agreements;
drafting subsidiary legislation for local government organizations in Queensland;
drafting tender documents for commercial projects and consultancy services;
drafting policy documents and management reports for a local government organization in Sydney.
 
Bhaskaran returned to Singapore to join M & A Law Corporation as a Director in July 2006.

Bhaskaran is a member of various professional and civic bodies including the Disciplinary Committee of the Singapore Hockey Federation.
